He was captured on August 10 and executed on August 17, 1870. One of his relatives was tortured by General Canizal and forced to give up Perucho's location in August 1870. His home in Bayamo was the main center of the independence movement in the east, and he was one of three elected members of the Bayamo Revolutionary Committee that met there.
